Elbon: Clever drivers will find ways to adapt to the new car

Next season, Formula 1 will switch to next-generation power units. Drivers who have already experienced the initial versions in a simulator were not entirely impressed, but Alex Albon believes that it's not all bad and smart drivers will quickly adapt to the new technology.

Alex Albon: "Handling the new cars is indeed difficult, and the workload on the driver will increase. However, it’s important to understand how to utilize the power unit and adapt your driving style accordingly. But all of this is part of the new regulations, as technology does not stand still.

I must say, I wasn’t shocked by the new car. It’s just necessary to think more carefully when working with the power unit to understand how to get the most out of it.

We all want to see exciting races. I’m not sure that speeds and driving style will change dramatically. I don’t think we’ll start racing in the style of Formula E, where active energy regeneration and similar techniques are used. The approach to driving won’t change significantly.

I’m not complaining, I’m just saying that the driving style will need to be adjusted. Yes, drivers will have more work, but I don’t think it will all depend on who handles cornering better.

Smart drivers will figure out how to work with all systems and find their way around the car. Those who understand how to interact most effectively with the new-generation car will gain a speed advantage."
