Will Mick Schumacher become a reserve driver for Cadillac F1?

The British edition The Race fairly accurately characterized Cadillac F1’s policy at this stage of General Motors’ works project: the American team “continues to play on the nerves of several drivers, delaying the announcement of its lineup for its first season in Formula 1.”

The most likely contenders are nevertheless known — Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas — but the name of 26‑year‑old Mick Schumacher, who has 43 Grands Prix of experience with Haas F1, is also being mentioned in this context.

In addition, the son of the seven‑time world champion has been racing in endurance events for the Alpine Endurance Team since last year and, together with his teammates in car No. 36, has reached the podium three times. He and his management are doing everything possible to return to Formula 1.

According to The Race, Mick does indeed have such chances, but it is more likely to be as a reserve driver for Cadillac F1 — similar duties Mick performed at Mercedes in 2023–2024. It is quite possible that Mick would accept such a scenario, as he would be able to combine that role with competing in the WEC.

However, this would not be a third season with the factory Alpine team, but a move to Cadillac Team Jota, where Schumacher could replace Jenson Button, who intends to retire at the end of this season. Such a decision promises benefits for both sides: Mick would share with the new Formula 1 team the experience he gained at Mercedes, while also racing for Cadillac in the World Endurance Championship.

Cooperation with one of the strongest WEC teams will surely interest him: it was Cadillac drivers who took pole and won the July round of the season in Brazil. On the other hand, he would return to the Formula 1 paddock, and that is always better than being outside it.
