Hülkenberg: A career break will do me good.

On Thursday in Zandvoort, Nico Hülkenberg commented on the news that his former teammate Sergio Perez will return to Formula 1 next season with the Cadillac team. The Sauber driver, whose career also included a break from racing, believes that a one-year hiatus will do Sergio nothing but good.

"I suppose I was in a somewhat different situation to Sergio," Nico Hülkenberg says. "During my career break I had a lot more free time – three years instead of one. It all depends on how competitive their car turns out to be, because that's what it's all about.

I think it only did Sergio good that he rested, switched off from Formula 1 and watched everything from the sidelines from the comfort of his home. It's quite an interesting experience. I'm sure the career break did him good. I know he feels full of energy and ready to carry on."

Answering a question about Cadillac's prospects in their debut season, Nico said: "I hope our team will be ahead. You know, any attempts to speculate about the pecking order right now are just that – speculation. It's not just about Cadillac and Audi, but about everyone.

The changes to the regulations are too large, and I don't want to speculate on that, especially as it applies to one team. Next year eleven teams will take the start, and everyone is working to make their car the best. We'll see where that leads."
