Lawson: My first experience in Formula 1 was not the most pleasant.

On Thursday in Zandvoort, Liam Lawson recalled his Formula 1 debut two years ago, when during the weekend he unexpectedly stepped in for the injured Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri…

Liam Lawson: "To be honest, I can't say anything good about that weekend. It all happened suddenly, I wasn't ready and I was really nervous. It was a very tough weekend. When it was behind me, I was glad it was over. I learned a lot, but it wasn't the most enjoyable weekend of my career.

Qualifying was very difficult, then came an even tougher wet race. For me it was a survival race – I was trying to keep the car on the track while also getting to grips with the handling in tricky conditions. I remember I did about twenty laps when the track dried, I got into a rhythm – and I enjoyed it. But then it started raining again, the race was stopped with red flags, so it wasn't a very pleasant experience."
