Oliver Berman: We only need to take one more step.
Oliver Bearman, the British Haas F1 driver, believes he can step up and start scoring points again, since he has rarely managed to do so lately, although in the summer races he finished 11th four times—just one place shy of the top ten.
Oliver Bearman: "During the break I quickly got bored because there were no races, so I'm happy to be back on track in Zandvoort. Since Canada we've been showing consistent results, but unfortunately we've consistently finished outside the points. There was probably little more we could have done.
On one hand, results like that can easily be frustrating; on the other, in four races we were close to scoring points, and that's encouraging. It means it's within our capabilities; we just need to work a bit more on the fine setup details to make that final step.
The first half of the season was very intense, consisting of 14 races. Last year, when I raced in Formula 2, that many rounds made up the whole season, and now we've already had that many races by August. It's much more than I'm used to, but I think the summer break in the championship came at the right time and helped me reset. Now I'm looking forward to the second part of the season. I had some good moments in the first part, but there were too many mistakes.
But I get incredible pleasure from driving a Formula 1 car. This is the final season under the 2022 regulations, and we are driving machinery of this generation almost at the limit of its capabilities. So if the wind direction changes, or you slightly adjust the chassis balance, the picture over a single lap can change significantly, and instead of perfect feelings behind the wheel you start to experience difficulties, so you don't always manage to find confidence.
Still, in terms of driving, these are the most interesting cars I've ever had the chance to drive."
