Derek Chang, president of F1 owner Liberty Media, indicates that talks regarding the next US broadcasting deal for the sport are reaching their final stages. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference, Chang did not mention Apple specifically, although it is widely believed that the tech company is leading the bid for rights starting in 2026. "I think the negotiations have been fairly well-documented; we are quite advanced and we feel satisfied and confident about where we are headed," he stated. "We should have something to discuss relatively soon." Previous reports suggested that Apple has proposed at least $150 million annually, significantly surpassing ESPN's existing $90 million deal, and Netflix has also been mentioned as a potential player. This context includes Apple's push into live sports, with MLS and MLB already featured on its streaming service, as well as the international success of the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt. Chang indicated that F1 is considering more than just the broadcast fee. "The more important question is what we are seeking," he elaborated. "Is your media partner merely a media partner, or are they a sponsor as well? If they are a sponsor, they have various avenues to monetize and commercialize the relationship." He continued, "Finding a partner who enhances that for us comprehensively and fosters engagement with fans is crucial."
