Max Verstappen: Racing is not just my profession
On Saturday Max Verstappen will take part in qualifying and compete in the seventh round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), a German touring-car endurance series held on the legendary Nordschleife of the Nürburgring.
We reported on such plans by the four-time world champion: first he intends to obtain a special license that allows him to race in these events in the fastest GT3 category, the so-called DMSB Permit Nordschleife.
So tomorrow Max will sit behind the wheel of a Porsche 718 Cayman sports car from the less powerful GT4 category – it will be a car from the Lionspeed GP team in the colors of Verstappen.com Racing and Red Bull. After qualifying he will take the start of the four-hour race. His teammate will be 22-year-old Briton Chris Lalham, who races for Verstappen’s team in the GT World Challenge Europe series.
On why he wants to do it, Verstappen told his official website: “Racing is not just my profession, it’s also my hobby. This weekend I will be at the Nordschleife, and my goal is to take part in the qualifying race that grants the mandatory license to race here in a GT3 car.
I really want to do this because the Nordschleife tops the list of tracks I’d like to race on. The ‘North Loop’ is an exceptionally demanding circuit, and a driver must meet the highest standards. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel!”
