Luca di Montezemolo: Binotto would have done better
With eight races left in the season, Ferrari has only five podiums and no wins. Former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo believes the team's results would be better if it were still headed by Mattia Binotto.
Luca di Montezemolo: "One of the lessons I learned during my years at Ferrari, and which I always put into practice, is that when you win you must work even harder, and when you don't win you must work twice as hard.
You need to choose the right people. When I led Ferrari, I had very good specialists both in leading and supporting roles. Binotto would have done better if he had been allowed to continue.
Constant reshuffles within the team mean losing one of the most important elements — stability. When the leader changes, you have to start all over again. And statements generate inflated expectations, whereas you should do the opposite — first achieve results, then make statements.
I saw photos of the wonderful fans at the Grand Prix in Monza, and then a team that, despite numerous statements, still hasn't won a single race. Moreover, Ferrari hasn't won championships for many years.
I've had to endure terrible times. If I'm not mistaken, we lost nine or ten championships in the final race of the season. But for so many years Ferrari's drivers have not been fighting for the title. I hope that everything will change. Above all, for the sake of those people who were in Monza and continue to steadfastly believe in the team. I believe that Ferrari owes them an even greater responsibility."
