Luca di Montezemolo, the former president of Ferrari, has accused the historic Maranello brand of attempting to erase him from its legacy. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport while promoting a documentary about his life, the 78-year-old expressed his disappointment that Ferrari has distanced itself from his highly successful period of leadership.

"There’s something broken that still hasn’t been fixed between you and Ferrari," the interviewer remarked, pointing out that Montezemolo was not allowed to film at Maranello and that his photos have vanished from the company museum.

"I also mention it in the film - envy of the past is detrimental," Montezemolo responded. He, who guided Ferrari through the Schumacher era until his dismissal in 2014, has emerged as one of the Scuderia’s most vocal critics in recent years. He maintains that the team is lacking in direction and leadership.

"Currently, there is no leadership and, most importantly, there is no soul," he stated. "I don’t know (Frederic) Vasseur and I don’t criticize him, but I perceive a solitary figure. Too many changes - the team needs stability. I recall when Fiat wanted me to dismiss Todt, but I refused. I stated, 'If he goes, I’ll go too.'"

Ferrari has yet to respond to Montezemolo’s latest comments.
