A third candidate has emerged for this year's FIA presidential election, as Swiss racer Laura Villars has announced her candidacy. The 28-year-old, recognized for her participation in the Ligier European Series, could become the first woman to contest for the top position in the federation's history if her application is approved before the deadline on October 24.
"The FIA must once again become the federation of clubs and license holders," Villars stated. "My ambition is to create a governance that is more democratic, transparent, responsible, and inclusive of women and new generations."
Her manifesto also guarantees enhanced financial transparency, an improved Women in Motorsport program, and the introduction of a new 'FIA Eco-Performance' sustainability label. Current president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is aiming for a second term, while former FIA steward Tim Mayer is also a contender. The election is scheduled for December 12 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
