On Friday Williams' engineers and drivers continued work to improve the effectiveness of the interaction between the car and Pirelli tyres…
Alex Albon (9th): "Today we worked with the tyres. We had to find a middle ground between what is optimal for the car over a long run and what is optimal for a single lap. I think we managed that. I'm happy with the car and its balance.
I'd like to see dry weather for the rest of the weekend. If the weather turns bad tomorrow and it rains, we'll face a few unknowns, but at the same time it could make us even quicker. Overall, we showed good pace in the first practice and confirmed it in the second."
Carlos Sainz (11th): "An interesting day. The first session was chaotic, we constantly had to slow down because of yellow flags. But the second went better, and I'm pleased with the long runs.
It seems the difficulties with the softer compounds continue. We need to keep looking for some solution for qualifying. I think tomorrow the Soft and Medium tyres will be close in characteristics; we'll see different approaches, which will add intrigue to qualifying."
