Fornaroli verifies discussions regarding F1 amidst rumors about Alpine.

"My manager and I are performing exceptionally well"

Leonardo Fornaroli has revealed that he is already in discussions with Formula 1 teams regarding 2026, as the plans for Alpine's drivers continue to be the topic of conversation in the paddock. "My manager and I are doing a great job and we’re starting conversations with F1 teams for next year," the leader in Formula 2 points told Sky Italia in Baku. "However, I am concentrating on finishing this season, aiming for victory."

This statement comes shortly after rumors linked the 20-year-old Italian to Alpine, where Flavio Briatore is considering options for a partner for Pierre Gasly next year. The speculation has contributed to a renewed silly season in Baku, with some indicating that Mercedes could place Kimi Antonelli at Williams, which may pave the way for Carlos Sainz to return to Brackley alongside George Russell.

An internal source at Mercedes is skeptical about Antonelli moving elsewhere. "He has a contract with us, and I don’t expect any issues, especially if he performs well in the upcoming races. And the Williams option also seems unlikely to me." Meanwhile, Alpine advisor Briatore seems to rule out prospects like Fornaroli or Antonelli completely. "It’s a choice between Franco (Colapinto) and Paul (Aron)," he stated. "I need to determine which of them would be the best fit for the team. A race or two more is needed for me to make a decision."
