Verstappen: Very difficult qualifying, but I'm satisfied.

Max Verstappen won Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying for the first time in his career. For the reigning world champion, the pole in Baku was his sixth of the season and the 46th of his career.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda qualified sixth. For the Japanese driver, this is his best result as part of Red Bull Racing.

Max Verstappen (1st): "A very long qualifying with a lot of red flags. In that situation it was difficult to put a lap together, because most of the time the tyres were either not ready for an attempt or red flags would appear. It was especially difficult in the finale when it was drizzling. A very tough session.

On the final lap you just had to give it everything. I wasn't even on the tyres I was expecting, because due to the red flags they had simply run out.

I'm very pleased with how the weekend is going. Already in the first practice we looked pretty good, and since then we've just kept improving, and then we performed excellently in qualifying when it really mattered.

I think we would have been ready for pole regardless of the weather. The finale was chaotic for everyone, but I'm happy with the result. Since Monza we've been doing a good job, and I hope that continues.

It's going to be a long race. You need to get a good start, and then run at your own pace and manage tyre wear, because the softer compounds make it tough for them. But let's see how things unfold."
