Nico Hülkenberg: Not our day

Nico Hülkenberg: Not our day

For Sauber the race in Singapore was unsuccessful, both drivers finishing well down the field, trailing the winner by a lap...

Jonathan Whitley, team principal: “First of all, I want to congratulate McLaren on defending the title. For us the race was unsuccessful. Almost nothing went our way. I sincerely believed that starting from 11th we could score points, but that did not happen. Without safety-car periods the race lacked many of the variables typical for Singapore and gave us no chance to fight back. It’s great that in two weeks we will be back on the grid and will try to do better.”

Gabriel Bortoleto (17th): “Not our best race. My car was damaged on the first lap after a collision at turn one — three cars were alongside each other, there was contact, and my front wing was broken. I had to pit, which cost me time. All of that made my race much more difficult. We lacked pace; I spent most of the race behind Colapinto. Overall, it was one of those days when nothing went the way you wanted.”

Nico Hülkenberg (20th): “Not our day. Without a good position on track it’s always hard for us, especially on a street circuit where overtaking is almost impossible unless you have a big tyre advantage. At the end, when I closed up on Franco Colapinto, he braked unexpectedly early, my car lost a lot of downforce, which led to a heavy lock-up and a spin. Overall we lacked speed this weekend. Nevertheless, even on tough days there is something to learn and to take into the next races.”
