Verstappen: The race turned out to be more difficult than I expected.

Max Verstappen started in Singapore on soft tires in an attempt to overtake George Russell into the first corner. The plan didn't work, the Red Bull Racing driver remained second and spent most of the race held up by Lando Norris. After the finish, the reigning world champion stated that second place was the best possible result for today.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda battled with rivals throughout the race and finished twelfth.

Max Verstappen (2nd): "By the time of the start the track had only just dried, and I had to start from the dirty side of the track. We tried something unconventional, because otherwise I would have just gone through the first corner from my position, unless something extraordinary happened.

At least we tried, but the plan didn't work. So then on the first stint I had to look after the tires, to do as many laps on them as possible and switch to Hard tires. Unfortunately, for various reasons the race turned out to be more difficult than I had expected. We need to understand what went wrong today.

But even if I had had a higher pace, on this track it's still impossible to attack unless something crazy happens. I think second place was the best possible result."
