Vaulz: Responsibility rests solely with us.
After the podium in Baku, which gave the Williams team a powerful extra boost of energy, the outcome of the Singapore weekend has to be called ambiguous: the FW47 allowed us to fight for places in the top ten, but we managed to score only a single point.
Such results were predetermined by the extremely unpleasant events on Saturday, when Williams' qualifying results were annulled: it turned out that both cars of the British team did not comply with the technical regulations.
According to James Vowles, the head of the British team, the blame for the disqualification lies only with themselves.
James Vowles: “Congratulations to Carlos Sainz, who truly impressed by earning a point after starting from the back of the grid. But thanks also to Alex Albon, as he made a significant contribution to our ability to execute that strategy.
Everyone saw that our two drivers followed different strategies, and we tried to use both cars as effectively as possible. We were very quick, especially on the soft tyres toward the end of the race, but even on the Medium compound, on which the drivers ran long stints, the pace was quite high.
All of this gives me hope ahead of the final six rounds of the season. We are fighting for fifth place in the Constructors’ Championship and will put all our effort into that. However, there is one caveat…
Of course, I am still very upset about what happened on Saturday. The responsibility for this lies solely with us, and now we must ensure that we never find ourselves in this situation again. Had both cars started the race from the positions they should have, we could have achieved much higher results.
But now we must prepare for the round in Austin. American races await us, and the one in Austin is always particularly interesting. You could say that with each race weekend we gain more information about our car, and I am keen to find out as soon as possible what we will achieve in the upcoming Grands Prix.
And finally, congratulations to McLaren on winning the Constructors’ Championship! It is a well-deserved success, as that team has shown impressive pace all season. All of this inspires us too, and we will strive for similar results in the years to come.”
