Danner: Ferrari is to blame for the brake problems.

In Singapore the Ferrari team once again disappointed its fans, but not only because the rivals were simply faster: both of the Italian team's cars experienced brake problems, which unquestionably affected the final result.

When Lewis Hamilton crossed the line in seventh, his car effectively had only three brake discs left — however, because he was penalised for numerous track limits violations, he was classified eighth. And Charles Leclerc had to nurse his brakes almost from the start, and he finished sixth.

Christian Danner, a former Formula 1 driver and now a commentator and pundit, believes that the Scuderia was not sufficiently well prepared for the Singapore round of the championship.

"All Hamilton could do was somehow limp to the finish," Danner believes. "When a brake disc falls apart, the brakes simply fail. It's just some kind of crazy story, because you can't say it's safe to pilot a car that only has three functioning brake discs left.

"Normally in that case you have to stop the car immediately, even if there is only one lap to go. Even I was a bit scared watching him. The responsibility for this clearly lies with Ferrari. an outside race director cannot assess the extent of the brake problem. But the team certainly could."

There were also problems on Leclerc's car, where he had to lift off earlier when negotiating corners to at least slightly reduce the load on the brakes. It was probably only thanks to that that the brakes on his SF-25 lasted the full distance.

"If you arrive in Singapore for a race that's been held since 2008, and in 2025 you have brake problems, then that's completely unacceptable," Danner continued. "Either there was a gross mistake in the design of the brake cooling system, or the setup was chosen incorrectly. In short, their cars were poorly prepared for the Singapore round, that's it…

"It is unlikely that one can count on progress from Ferrari this season. Leclerc's words after that race give food for thought. He said that this year they will not even be able to finish anywhere near the podium. To my mind, all of this is incredibly sad, because Ferrari should be performing at a higher level; its drivers should at least be contenders for podiums."
