Aston Martin did not discuss Alonso's retirement.
Fernando Alonso's contract with Aston Martin expires at the end of 2026, and the Spanish driver has already named the conditions under which next year would be his last in Formula 1. Aston Martin boss Andy Cowell said he has not discussed Alonso leaving the team, but understands his desire to finish his career as a winner.
"We all want to go out on a high," Racingnews365 quotes Cowell. "He wants to finish his career winning races and achieving strong results. I think that's what his words are about.
Fernando is an important part of the team. It really helps us that in preparing for next season we have Fernando and Lance Stroll. Alonso's contribution is very important in the work on the 2026 car, in determining its configuration and in simulator work.
We all dream that Fernando finishes his last race on the top step of the podium. But I haven't had any conversations with him about leaving. Everything we've discussed with him over the past year has been about preparing for 2026."
