How much does it cost to participate in the first training session?
Each Formula 1 team is required to provide the first four practice sessions of the season to young drivers. Many teams use this rule for commercial purposes, offering seats to drivers in exchange for money. According to Motorsport Magazine, the court documents in "McLaren v Palou" reveal how much drivers and their sponsors are willing to pay for an hour-long practice. In particular, last year Toyota factory driver Rio Hirakawa paid McLaren $3.5 million to take part in the first practice of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix; that fee included preliminary tests in older cars to prepare for the free practice sessions.
