      On the eve of the United States Grand Prix, Mercedes confirmed Kimi Antonelli's contract for 2026. In Austin, the young Italian driver commented on the team's decision.

      "The team has always been very clear about its plans and what it wants, so I never really worried much about the contract, but it's nice to get the confirmation," Kimi Antonelli shared. "You know, during all those ups and downs, especially in a difficult period, doubts crept in. But the team has always supported me and openly stated their desire to continue working with me next year.

      I'm glad it's all confirmed now. Of course, I knew the contract would be renewed, but I still feel a bit more relaxed now because I know for sure I have a place for next year."

      Answering a question about the prospect of staying at Mercedes after 2026, Kimi said: "I don't know. Every year I try to perform as well as I can and achieve the best possible results.

      I've talked with the team, and they want to continue working with me in the future, not just next year, but for that I have to perform well. It's likely they plan to continue working with me after 2026, but on my side I have to deliver results. It's especially important to do that next year, since I'll already have the experience from this season, and under the new regulations there could be great opportunities.

      If we have a fast car, it will be important for me to maximise the results and show my best qualities if I want to keep my place in the team in 2027 and beyond."
