United States Grand Prix: Power Unit Components
During the season, teams may use up to four internal combustion engines, turbochargers, MGU-H and MGU-K units, and up to two energy stores and control electronics units without penalty.
Fitting the first power unit element of a type over these limits is penalized by a 10-place grid drop. Fitting the second and subsequent elements results in a 5-place grid drop. If the size of the penalty is more than 15 places, the driver will start from the back of the grid. If several drivers receive such penalties, the starting order depends on their qualifying results.
Replacement of exhaust systems (EX) is also limited — only eight may be used per season; further replacements are punished with the same penalty.
The FIA published a list of power unit elements fitted to cars before the start of the weekend in the USA, but replacements are already possible today.
