During sprint qualifying for the US Grand Prix Kimi Antonelli used a cooling vest after the FIA issued a high-temperature warning for the weekend. However, for the Italian Mercedes driver the cooling vest caused additional problems.
"It was physically hard to be behind the wheel because I had serious problems," Kimi Antonelli said after sprint qualifying. "I put on a cooling vest, but it malfunctioned. Instead of cooling me, the vest warmed me up. So I had a really hard time."
In the end Kimi's run ended in the second part, he set the eleventh-fastest time. "I'm very disappointed because I had good pace in the first session. But on top of the problems with the vest there were issues with wheel lock-ups. I locked the wheels badly twice on a fast lap and lost a lot of time.
"It's a shame, because I had the pace to make the final, but now all focus is on Saturday's sessions."
