Alonso: Tire wear will be the main problem in the race.

      Fernando Alonso made it to the qualifying final in Austin, while his teammate Lance Stroll was eliminated from contention already in the first session...

      Fernando Alonso (10th): "Our car was quick this week, I'm glad I made it through to the qualifying final. It's a pity the sprint ended at the first corner, because before the collision I was running second or third.

      The fight in qualifying was close, but I did my laps well in the first and second sessions and made it to the final. In the final I didn't start the lap very well and had to be more aggressive – I was worried the tires wouldn't hold up. With such hot weather, tire wear will be one of the main problems, we'll see if we can fight for points."

      Lance Stroll (18th): "I made a mistake overtaking Esteban Ocon at the end of the sprint. I was sure I could take the inside of the corner, but the track was slippery there and I locked up the front-left wheel. That's my mistake, I apologized to Esteban.

      In qualifying I managed to get through to the second part – but because I went off track my result was annulled, so I ended up only 18th. Given the penalty I received in the sprint, I'll be starting from the back of the grid, but I'll try to fight back. In this weather it will be hard to manage the tires' condition, so we'll see what happens."
