Max Verstappen: You can't win the race with a problem like that.

Max Verstappen topped the timesheets in the second free practice session of the Mexico Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver, who handed his car to Arvid Lindblad in the first practice, said he was unhappy with the long-run pace, and that if the problem isn't solved on Saturday, Sunday will be difficult for him.

Yuki Tsunoda ran both practice sessions and was seventh in the second, almost half a second behind his teammate.

Max Verstappen (1st): "I had to wait before getting behind the wheel today. On a fast lap on the Soft tyres I managed to post a good time. Everything else was rather poor. The fast lap on the Medium didn't come together very well, but the main problem was the long-run pace, and that's our main concern ahead of the race.

There's no issue with the balance, but the car simply has no grip with the track. That's the main problem. As soon as I started working on long runs the tyres immediately overheated and I lost pace. It will be difficult to solve this problem, but we'll see.

You can't win a race with that problem. You can be quick over one lap, but if you don't have pace over the race distance, it's going to be very tough. I'd rather be quick over the race distance than over a single lap."

Yuki Tsunoda (7th): "Friday hasn't gone this smoothly for me in quite a while, so I'm fairly happy. I think there are areas where we can improve, especially in long-run speed, but there's also potential on a fast lap. I have to say that after a Friday like this I'm in better shape than usual.

Of course there's a lot to do ahead of Saturday, but the car's balance is already fine. The problems are linked to one significant limitation which, let's say, is typical for this track, so we need to find a compromise."

Arvid Lindblad (6th in the first session): "Not the easiest session. At the start of the session the asphalt was very dusty, so the grip with the track was low. I made a few mistakes, but towards the end I was able to put in a decent lap.

My main priority was not to make mistakes and to give the team good feedback. From that point of view it went well, and it's also nice to be near the top of the timesheets.

Am I ready for Formula 1? I was fast-tracked up the career ladder, so I'm used to being thrown in at the deep end and having to swim out. To say now whether I'm ready or not... I don't know. I believe in myself, so I'll find a way."
