EA Sports has abandoned development of F1 2026.
EA Sports and Codemasters announced they are cancelling development of the official multiplatform F1 2026 game. The studios have decided to devote more time to working on the F1 2027 project, which will "look, feel and play differently," offering players a broader range of possibilities.
However, fans of the game series will not be left without the 2026 cars, drivers and tracks. The next season will be released as an expansion for F1 2025. This expansion is expected to become available after the start of the Formula 1 season.
"F1 25 turned out to be an incredibly successful game, and given how Formula 1 is gaining momentum on and off the track, now is the right time for us to look to the future and lay out new plans," explains the decision’s author, Codemasters’ senior creative director Lee Mazer. "We are fully committed to the EA Sports F1 franchise, and our multi-year plan includes releasing an expansion with the 2026 season and reimagining gameplay in 2027 to offer even more opportunities to players around the world."
Codemasters promise that the 2027 game will provide players with "an updated experience that expands on what long-time fans of the franchise love and, at the same time, presents the excitement of Formula 1 in a new way, immersing new and existing players in the modern era of the sport."
