Helmut Marko: Norris would suit our team
Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko said that he once held talks with Lando Norris, but the parties were unable to reach an agreement because McLaren made the British driver a more attractive offer. Nevertheless, Marko still believes that Lando would have been a great fit for Red Bull Racing.
Helmut Marko: "Negotiations with Lando were at a very early stage, and, in the end, we did not sign a contract with him. However, I believe that he would have suited our team very well. On the other hand, we cannot just take anyone. We are looking for champions. When Sebastian Vettel left, we weren't looking for a new Vettel. We were looking for a new champion."
Red Bull found Max Verstappen, and Helmut Marko is still impressed by the Dutch driver: "Max is completely dedicated to the cause. You know, I still can't understand how after a Grand Prix he boards a plane, flies to his simulator and takes part in virtual races. Well, maybe that's modern life. But a victory at the Nürburgring behind the wheel of a Ferrari means a lot to him. It shows that Max is a real racer."
