The fate of the title could be decided at the round in Qatar.

With three rounds remaining in the season, Lando Norris leads Oscar Piastri by 24 points and Max Verstappen by 49 points in the battle for the title. A maximum of 83 points can be earned in the remaining races and sprint, which means the title will not be decided at the Las Vegas round, but the name of the 2025 Formula 1 champion could be known as early as Qatar.

Lando Norris is the favorite. His points advantage over his rivals is such that he no longer needs to win races this season to become champion. If Oscar Piastri wins the three remaining races and the sprint in Qatar, Lando will secure the title provided he finishes second in all the races and the sprint.

Under what conditions would Norris become champion at the Qatar round? If Lando wins in Las Vegas and Piastri retires from the race, the points gap between them will grow to 49, with 58 points still to be contested.

To become champion in Qatar, the championship leader must achieve a 26-point lead over his nearest rival. For Norris, who currently leads Piastri, this means that over the next two rounds he needs to gain just 2 more points on Piastri.

One should not discount the third title contender — Max Verstappen, although the Red Bull Racing driver's mathematical chances are slim. If in Las Vegas Max loses 9 or more points to Norris (a win for Lando and third place for Max), then Verstappen will be eliminated from title contention.
