The FIA held its traditional meeting with the drivers.
On 27 November in Qatar, the FIA held its traditional annual meeting between the stewards and the drivers, where driving standards and the application of penalties were discussed to ensure clear and consistent decision-making.
The discussion mainly focused on the "Driving Standards Guidelines" (DSG), introduced in 2022 at the drivers' request to clarify what is and is not permitted when overtaking or defending on track. The DSG are intended as a dynamic document, have been updated twice since their introduction, and are publicly available to increase transparency and improve fans' understanding of stewards' decisions.
After 22 races and five sprints this season, during which dozens of incidents occurred, the discussion centered on a small number of examples. These included:
- Piastri–Antonelli (Interlagos): overtaking on the inside line.
- Sainz–Berman (Monza): overtaking on the outside line.
- Sainz–Lawson (Zandvoort): application of the DSG in large-radius corners.
- Norris–Leclerc (Austin): track limits.
- Verstappen–Leclerc (Mexico): leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage.
The main conclusions and requests raised by the drivers covered several areas, including:
- greater emphasis on respecting yellow flags and discussion of potential additional concepts to further enhance safety.
- a clear preference for reviewing incidents post‑race when stewards feel not all relevant elements may be available during the race.
- a general understanding that the rules cannot cover every scenario, highlighting the importance of having an experienced driver serving as a steward.
- blue flags, including potential additions to the DSG to clarify the expected behavior of lapped drivers.
The FIA and the Formula 1 stewards thanked the drivers and teams for their constructive input. The comments made will be taken into account when revising the DSG following consultations with the GPDA. No changes are planned for the last two Grands Prix of the 2025 season.
