Additional races could be jeopardized as the crisis in Iran poses risks to the F1 schedule.

"Nervousness in the paddock is increasing each day."

Formula 1 may confront additional race cancellations beyond Bahrain and Saudi Arabia as tensions regarding the Iran crisis continue to mount. As reported by Austria’s Osterreich newspaper, there are growing concerns that more events later in the season could also be at risk. "Formula 1 is anxious about the possibility of further grands prix taking place," the report indicated. The Azerbaijan GP in Baku is reportedly under particular observation due to its proximity to Iran. "The country shares a border with Iran, which raises substantial security concerns among teams and drivers," stated Osterreich. However, the potential disruptions could extend beyond this. "Even the season finale is at risk," the publication added, mentioning that races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi are closely being watched as the situation unfolds. While officials have not yet taken action regarding these later events, the atmosphere in the paddock is said to be cautious. "Nervousness in the paddock is growing daily, as an escalation cannot be ruled out," the report noted. The financial implications have already been significant, with the cancellations of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia creating an estimated 100 million euro deficit for the sport's commercial rights holders. "There will be no alternative venues in the short term," noted Osterreich. If additional races were to be cancelled, the consequences could be severe. "If Azerbaijan, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi are also removed, the race calendar would shrink to a paltry 17 grands prix," the report cautioned.
