Stellantis’ fluctuating position on V8 engines is challenging to track, but it has led to what seems like a decent bargain on a powerful, older SUV. The Dodge Durango R/T makes a comeback for 2026, now featuring the 392 (6.4-liter) Hemi engine, which generates 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This is an increase of 115 horsepower compared to the previous R/T model, and the price remains unchanged at $51,990, including destination fees.
The enhancements go beyond just the engine; the chassis has received vital upgrades as well. The new Durango R/T 392 comes with standard adaptive suspension and six-piston Brembo front brakes along with four-piston rear brakes. It also features an electronic limited-slip differential on the rear axle, a performance exhaust system, and 295-mm-wide Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires.
Nappa leather seats backed by SRT and performance drive modes indicate that, despite the badging, this is essentially the former SRT 392. It’s a hidden powerhouse within the Durango range—provided you skip the racing stripes.
The previous R/T took 6.6 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph from a standstill; with the 392, this figure drops to 4.4 seconds, and the top speed is 160 mph. As expected, this Durango is ideal for performance enthusiasts who also need towing capabilities, boasting a maximum tow rating of 8,700 pounds.
Beyond the R/T 392 Launch Edition, priced just under $52K, there’s a Premium model available for $59,950, which includes destination charges. This version adds an 18-speaker Harmon/Kardon audio system, a leather-wrapped instrument panel, carbon accents, a suede headliner, a sunroof, a trailer tow package, Stellantis’ complete ADAS suite, and two-piece brake rotors. That’s quite an upgrade, but the base R/T already comes well-equipped.
