Science: First of all, the car needs to be made lighter.
Before the weekend in Suzuka, Williams driver Carlos Sainz spoke about the weaknesses of the new car…
Carlos Sainz: “First of all, the car needs to be made lighter. It’s no secret that it weighs too much. Will it be competitive after that? I think we can achieve that. The team has the potential to develop and create a car that will be much better than the one we have now.
We will be able to achieve much better results if we reduce weight, increase downforce, and find the optimal balance. Those are our goals this year. But the reality is that you can’t come up with anything magical in a couple of weeks, so in Japan, we will be in roughly the same shape as before.
This weekend we will try some solutions to make the car more competitive. We’ll see if we can close the gap to the midfield, but in China, we were quite far off, so I’m not expecting miracles.”
