The news of racing engineer Max Verstappen's Gianpiero Lambiase moving to McLaren has stirred the racing community, becoming the most notable event of the April break in Formula 1 so far. Gradually, details of the high-profile transfer are emerging, although the teams have not yet provided official comments.
It is already known that Gianpiero Lambiase will complete his current contract with Red Bull and will join McLaren only in 2028. Meanwhile, Sky Sports News has named the position he will hold in the Woking team.
According to the British broadcaster, Lambiase will head the racing engineering department at McLaren and will be responsible for the work of all the team's engineers on track during weekends. At the same time, Lambiase's responsibilities will not overlap with those of team principal Andrea Stella, who will retain his position.
Gianpiero Lambiase has been working with Max Verstappen since 2016, and with the engineer's upcoming departure from Red Bull, questions are already being raised about the future plans of the four-time world champion, whose contract with the team expires at the end of 2028 but could be terminated earlier under certain conditions.
