In honor of the anniversary, the new Williams car will be named FW50.

Next year, the Williams team will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its first race (Spain '77), and in honor of this event, the 2027 car will be named not with the next sequential index FW49, but directly FW50.

This is not the first deviation from the naming sequence in Williams' history. In 2017, to commemorate the team's 40th anniversary, Williams also skipped an index, going from FW38 straight to FW40.

At that time, the team hoped that they would not have to skip indices anymore, but due to the consequences of COVID-19, the FIA allowed the use of chassis without modifications for a second year, so in 2021, the car was named with the previous year's index with an additional letter – FW43B.
