      We wrote that the teams using Mercedes and Red Bull power units were forcibly switching the MGU-K motor-generator into emergency mode at the end of the fast lap in qualifying, hoping to gain an advantage from this. Ferrari approached the FIA with a request regarding the legality of such actions – and before the Miami Grand Prix, the federation banned the use of emergency mode without valid reasons. According to The Race, in the updated technical directives, the FIA left teams the option for emergency shutdown of the MGU-K, but only in the event of a malfunction. The FIA will easily be able to monitor this ban by analyzing data after qualifying to determine whether any team that disabled the MGU-K actually faced an emergency situation.
