The GEN4 Formula E car debuted on the track.

Today at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, the debut of the new generation GEN4 electric Formula E car took place. The new model will hit the track later this year in the thirteenth season of 2026/2027.

The new car is capable of reaching speeds of 335 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 1.8 seconds, and from 0 to 200 km/h in 4.4 seconds, which is 1.5 seconds faster than its predecessor. In race mode, the GEN4 has 50% more power available than the current GEN3 Evo. In Attack Mode, the GEN4 can produce up to 600 kW, which is 71% more than the base power of the GEN3 Evo.

The car comes with two aerodynamic package options – for maximum speed in qualifying and for managing energy consumption during the race. Additionally, the GEN4 remains the only "formula" with all-wheel drive.

In terms of real-world speeds, the prototype that hit the track today is at least five seconds faster per lap than the GEN3 Evo and on average 10 seconds faster than the GEN3 in qualifying mode. The series organizers are confident that teams will be able to achieve even greater speeds from the GEN4 during race weekends.

In developing the new model, significant attention was paid to environmental issues. At least 20% of recycled materials were used in key components of the car. The tires are made up of 65% natural and recycled materials, including 30% certified natural rubber, and the battery contains no rare earth minerals.

The GEN4 also incorporates new safety standards. The chassis and battery have undergone crash tests with much higher loads, and the cockpit has been expanded to increase hand space. Additionally, a new steering assist has been installed on the car, specifically designed to reduce steering wheel rotation speed during impacts.

Mohammed ben Sulayem, FIA President: "The new generation GEN4 Formula E car is a significant step forward in the electric racing series, setting a new global standard for speed, innovation, and sustainability. This is not just a fast car, but a statement of intent regarding the future of technology. I am proud that the FIA, together with our partners in the Formula E World Championship, is leading this vision."

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E: "GEN4 is not just a new car, but a bold statement of our ambitions. The opportunity to see the new model on the track for the first time is a true milestone for Formula E.

We have reached a level of performance that was considered impossible for electric vehicles just five years ago. The increase in performance is immediately noticeable – from speed and power to how the car behaves on the track. Everyone who has seen it has been thrilled.

Today is an incredibly exciting moment for the championship ahead of the upcoming 2026/2027 season, and a clear signal of the direction we are heading.

This is just the beginning, as the refinement of the car is now in the hands of our manufacturers – Porsche, Jaguar, Stellantis, Nissan, Lola Cars, and Mahindra. They will work to elevate performance to an even higher level before the GEN4 debuts in racing later this year.

GEN4 is not just an evolutionary development, but a qualitative leap in innovation and performance that will redefine motorsport for years to come."
