Peres: Neither engineers nor drivers understand the new F1.
The president of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, responded to criticism of the new technical regulations and hinted to the drivers that they should not focus on the aspects of the 2026 cars that they do not like. However, Sergio Perez disagrees with the championship leader's position. Speaking at a sponsor event in Mexico, the Cadillac driver continued to harshly criticize the regulations and features of the new cars. "The new Formula 1 is definitely very different from the past," said Sergio Perez. "The reality is that no one understands it – neither the engineers nor even us, the drivers. The fact is that the cars are not as interesting as they used to be and are very different from what we are used to. All teams still have a lot to learn. As a driver, you always try to drive as fast as possible, but now the electric components of the power unit and battery charging aspects play a significant role. Behind the wheel, you have to act differently, which is why it is so difficult for us. Sometimes there are moments when you are driving 80 or 90 kilometers per hour faster than the car in front, and you don't understand why. It's also difficult because you have no information about what is happening. We all have to adapt to these changes in the regulations."
