Schumacher remains receptive to a comeback in F1 despite difficulties in IndyCar.

Mick Schumacher has acknowledged that he still thinks about Formula 1 and does not dismiss the possibility of returning to the grid. "It would be untrue to say that I don’t sometimes reflect on my days in Formula 1 and consider what it was like to drive back then," he stated to RTL and ntv. "If an opportunity presented itself, I definitely wouldn't refuse it. That's for sure."

The 27-year-old, who raced for Haas during 2021 and 2022 before taking on a role as a Mercedes reserve, is currently competing exclusively in IndyCar, though he has faced a challenging beginning. "The entire environment is quite different. All the circuits are unfamiliar to me," Schumacher explained. "The initial months have been very educational, and I hope the results will come soon."

He is getting ready for his first Indianapolis 500 while adjusting to the physical requirements of the series. "It's not necessarily more challenging, but it's considerably more demanding," he mentioned. "The car lacks power steering, making it very mechanical and providing a direct translation of driving style. In IndyCar, there’s less strain on your neck, but your upper body is used much more. You really have to grasp the steering wheel much tighter."

Schumacher also pointed out the raw nature of the vehicles. "The suspension is so stable that it often jerks the steering wheel out of your hands if you don’t release it in time," he noted. Despite the dangers—and the higher speeds compared to Formula 1—he asserts that fear does not play a role. "If I were scared, I’d be in the wrong sport," Schumacher remarked. "No, fear isn’t a factor. A more accurate term would probably be ‘respect’."
