Di Grassi announced that he will end his racing career in 2026.
In 2014, Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi became the first to sign a contract to compete in Formula E and became one of the staunch supporters of the electric series. However, he began collaborating with it even during the preparation stage, testing the first-generation car, and then he became the very first winner of a race behind the wheel of this electric vehicle.
Since then, di Grassi has stood on the highest step of the podium 12 more times, and in 2017, he won the title while racing for the ABT Audi Sport team. After the factory team Audi, he collaborated with Venturi, Mahindra, ABT Cupra, and for the second season, he has been racing for Lola Yamaha, but this summer he will turn 42, and it is time to conclude his active career in motorsport.
Lucas di Grassi: "I have dedicated my entire life to racing, but the 2026 season will be my last as a professional driver, after which a new chapter will begin. As long as I can remember, motorsport has been the main activity in my life; it taught me discipline and perseverance even before I realized what these qualities were for, and they came in handy when obstacles arose in my path.
It is thanks to racing that my life has turned out in ways I could never have imagined – it all started in the suburbs of São Paulo, and now I live in Monaco. They have shaped me as a driver, as a person, and I have given everything to the sport, and in return, I have had the opportunity to lead a lifestyle that I could only dream of.
I am very grateful to my family, who have always supported me – both when I had to make tough decisions and on days of victory and defeat. Without the love of these people, without their patience and belief in me, nothing would have worked out. And the decision to end my career was made together with them, primarily with my wonderful wife and our children.
I especially want to thank Formula E, where I spent the last 14 years surrounded by amazing people who started by sketching some plans on napkins and then created this magnificent championship, which I consider my home.
In making the decision to end my career, I feel strong emotions, but at the same time, I am calm. Every good race ends with the final lap, and I want to drive mine with the same focus on success and passion that brought me to this sport. In my last races, I will give my all and soon share news about what awaits me in the future."
This weekend, a double-header of the 2026 World Championship will take place in Berlin, and Lucas has 11 races left to complete this season.
