Sergio Perez: We took a step back
Valtteri Bottas, who showed the twentieth time in the Miami Grand Prix qualifying, hopes that rain in the Sunday race will give Cadillac a chance to fight for higher positions. His teammate Sergio Perez qualified twenty-first and acknowledged that the team took a step back.
Valtteri Bottas (20th): “We continue to learn, and the information gained during the sprint allowed us to improve the car for qualifying. Although in some moments we looked worse than we could.
I think the unpredictable weather in the race will open up great opportunities for us. Yes, we don't have the best starting positions, but the gap seems to be closing. In the race, we will do everything we can, and hopefully, the changing weather will work in our favor.”
Sergio Perez (21st): “This weekend we have quite a few new things, and when there are so many changes in the car at once, something might not work, and we took a step back.
Qualifying was chaotic. On the second attempt, I pressed the wrong button on the steering wheel. Then on the third fast lap, the engine delivered increased power on braking before Turn 14, and I had to cut it – that lap was ruined too.”
