Zak Brown addressed a letter to the FIA.
Owning a Formula 1 team means influence and power. Owning two teams means double influence and two votes in decision-making, which the FIA does not like at all. We wrote about how the federation president Mohammed ben Sulayem is against the purchase of the Mercedes stake in the Alpine team, so that the voice of such an already authoritative manufacturer does not become decisive in Formula 1. McLaren Racing's Zak Brown does not want this either – why give one of the competitors such serious powers? This week he wrote a letter to the FIA urging them to change the rules to eliminate the possibility of joint ownership of teams in the future. It is believed that the letter was not directed against any specific company or team, but the topic of joint ownership of teams has been relevant for many years in the case of Red Bull Racing – Racing Bulls and in the example of Mercedes' interest in buying a stake in Alpine F1. According to Planet F1, Brown cited several examples of coinciding sporting interests, unsportsmanlike use of drivers from "second" teams to slow down other race participants, and the movement of personnel between teams, as with Laurent Mekies, who took over Red Bull Racing immediately after Christian Horner's dismissal.
