Craftsman power tools have just become much more attractive. The brand has introduced its next-generation V20 tool battery, claiming it offers three times the power and runtime of its existing offerings. In a rare promotional event, retailers are providing this new "V20 Advanced" in a large 6Ah size at half the list price. Plus, it is backwards compatible with all the V20 tools you already own.
50% Off: Craftsman V20 Advanced 6Ah Battery + Charger for $99
The centerpiece of Craftsman’s battery improvement is thermal management (operating cooler)—Craftsman’s press release mentions “state-of-the-art tabless cell technology.” Tabless battery technology rethinks how lithium-ion battery cells gather and conduct electrical current within the cell. Rather than relying on one or a few metal “tabs” attached to the electrodes, the edges of the electrodes themselves function as multiple parallel current pathways.
In theory, this can result in reduced internal resistance, leading to improved heat management and overall efficiency. While I haven't used Craftsman tools much recently, I do have a few older models (and some quite aged ones) in rotation on my small ranch.
This new battery update is significant news for the brand’s existing users, and it enhances Craftsman’s appeal if you’re just beginning to build your power-tool collection.
Currently, the V20 Advanced 6Ah is the product to purchase, as it typically retails for $199 but is on sale for $99. The smaller 3Ah version is also available, priced at $139. A 3Ah battery is sufficient for basic household drilling and even for impact wrenching, but if you plan to tackle yard work using a tool like a string trimmer, I highly recommend opting for a battery of 5Ah or larger.
Additionally, if you reside near a Lowe’s or Ace Hardware, take a look at Craftsman’s “battery trade-in” promotion, where the brand is offering free batteries for testing in their V20 tools.
