If you're after the most extreme road car ever to bear the Mercedes-Benz emblem, be prepared to open your wallet wide. The AMG One, which had a starting price of approximately $2.7 million, requires significant financial commitment not just for the initial purchase, but also for ongoing maintenance.

RM Sotheby’s is overseeing the sale of one of the limited 275 F1-inspired units produced. The listing highlights that this particular model, with just 115 miles on the odometer, underwent the recommended “Service A” in February 2026 at a cost of 37,610.15 euros (around $44,100 based on current exchange rates). The auction documents reveal that a substantial portion of this expense was attributed to labor, as the service took 80 hours charged at $463 per hour. Additionally, a $2,190 air filter and a $2,195 transmission oil filter were included in the service costs. Notably, the oil drain plug had to be replaced for $176, and the oil itself was $650.

Such a hefty maintenance bill for a nearly new vehicle—where all mileage is attributed to “factory testing,” according to the seller—definitely raises some questions. However, it does mean that Mercedes has extended the car's warranty until 2028, which makes it a more sensible purchase in that light.

An extended warranty may be wise for this delicate vehicle. After two of these cars caught fire, Mercedes issued a recall to fix potential issues with missing or improperly installed components in the hydraulic system controlling the rear wing, which could leak flammable fluid. The hydraulically-operated rear wing is one of several adjustable features on the AMG One, working in tandem with the car’s intricate drive mode system.

The AMG One’s intricate hydraulic mechanisms suggest it shares characteristics with aircraft, yet it boasts the heart of an F1 car. Specifically, it features the 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 from the W06 Hybrid that Lewis Hamilton used to clinch the drivers’ championship in 2015, contributing to Mercedes’ eight constructors’ championships during the 2014-2025 hybrid era. This F1-derived engine is paired with four electric motors powered by an 8.4-kilowatt-hour battery, bringing the AMG One’s total weight to 3,737 pounds and enabling it to generate 1,063 horsepower, with nearly half (489 hp) supplied by the electric motors.

This enormous power, coupled with the advantages of electric propulsion, allows the AMG One to accelerate to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 218 mph shortly thereafter. In 2024, it also became the first street-legal vehicle to drop below the 6:30 mark at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with Formula E and DTM racer Maro Engel achieving a lap time of 6:29.09 using the maximum performance "Strat 2" mode, similar to the qualifying mode of the Mercedes F1 cars. This illustrates the capabilities of racing engines, which unfortunately are not designed for everyday road use. This is precisely why the AMG One faced extensive development challenges, necessitating the meticulous maintenance akin to that of a Faberge racehorse to keep it in optimal running condition.
