Vasseur: The pace turned out to be better than expected.
For Ferrari, the results of the Canadian Grand Prix turned out to be significantly better than expected – Lewis Hamilton had an excellent race, finishing in 2nd place and being named "Driver of the Day," while Charles Leclerc, starting from 8th position, finished fourth.
"To be honest, we didn't expect to show such results here in Montreal," admitted Frederic Vasseur, head of Scuderia. "McLaren and Mercedes brought extensive technical innovations to Canada, and we were prepared for some difficulties. But from the first day of the weekend, the pace turned out to be better than we could have hoped for.
In qualifying, Lewis fought for second place until the last lap, which indicates that the car is capable of good speed. Towards the end of the race, he felt extra motivation when battling with Max, attacking like crazy to catch up, and he succeeded.
Charles had more difficulties; he didn't feel particularly confident – however, he hasn't performed that well on this track in previous years either. Two or three times during the race, he had dangerous moments, so it's already good that he managed to finish and earned important points for the team."
After the Canadian Grand Prix, Vasseur was also asked what Ferrari expects from the ADUO program ("Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities" – it allows engine manufacturers to refine previously homologated power units).
"The whole world wants to know who will be able to take advantage of ADUO? I don't know about the whole world, but we will see in the coming days what position FIA will take," Vasseur replied cheerfully. "Right now, our task is to fully focus on our work. Ahead is the Monaco Grand Prix, which is a special track that requires a different approach compared to Canada.
At the team's base in Maranello, we are making incredible efforts to increase the car's speed every weekend. I hope we can make a significant step forward at the Spanish stage of the season."
Vasseur means that Ferrari is preparing an upgraded version of the SF-26 for the Barcelona-Catalonia Grand Prix.
