Lewis Hamilton: The whole weekend was fun!

Lewis Hamilton: The whole weekend was fun!

Lewis Hamilton finished second in Montreal, achieving his best result with Ferrari...

Question: Lewis, this is your 11th podium in Montreal. You seem really happy this time. Was the race fun?

Lewis Hamilton: Yes, the whole weekend was fun. I felt like we were doing everything right on every lap, and the car was behaving wonderfully.

It's great to come to Montreal, to a track that I love so much, and to have the first-ever weekend with a Saturday sprint. And yes, this is my first second place with Ferrari.

I worked hard for this. I won't even try to explain how deeply I had to dig to get to this moment, the work that was done, the mountains I had to move. But I am truly grateful to the team for continuing to support me every weekend. And it feels really wonderful to see them happy; they truly deserve it for their hard work.

Question: Tell us about the car's speed. You seem more satisfied in Canada than at the last round in Miami...

Lewis Hamilton: It's about the specifics of preparation. Before this weekend, I chose a different approach, just analyzed the data and worked well with my engineer. He is just amazing; I really enjoy working with him. And he did a fantastic job this weekend, helping me get more from the car, which reflected in the results. Finally, I was able to attack in all corners.

As I said, I had to ask for many changes, and Frederic Vasseur provided me with tremendous support and also moved mountains to make me comfortable. And this is finally starting to show in my performance. Thank you to the team.

Question: When your mom comes to the race, you always perform well...

Lewis Hamilton: I rented an apartment here so my mom could live with me. Every evening we had dinner together, watched movies, or just talked. It was amazing. We are planning a little trip for a couple of days, so I am really looking forward to that. And achieving a positive result is great too. She is my lucky charm, my talisman; I will be happy to see her every weekend.

Question: It was interesting to watch your battle with Max. Did you enjoy it too?

Lewis Hamilton: It was great. Just amazing to battle with one of the great drivers. But it’s incredibly challenging. Our cars are roughly equal in speed—you saw that in qualifying. We are faster in the corners, they are faster on the straight. Everything I gained in the corners, he compensated for on the straight. It was very difficult to keep up with him.

At the start of the race, he was faster, and then when he switched to Medium, I was able to catch up with him. I enjoy that kind of hunt. My whole life has been dedicated to this, since childhood, since I got my old kart, I have always been hunting. So it was amazing to get back to that position and track down the champion ahead. And it’s incredibly difficult, and you have to be very careful when you have fewer opportunities than others.

I tried to understand how to maximize the battery charge and make sure it would last for that specific moment. And it worked out. It’s a wonderful feeling when you overtake.

Question: During the race, you complained about a lack of power. Next week we will be in Monaco, where power doesn’t matter much. Do you think Ferrari might have a chance to outpace Mercedes?

Lewis Hamilton: That’s the only track where power doesn’t play a decisive role. I think we can be really strong there. I will focus on coming with the same energy that I had this weekend and work hard with the engineers to make sure we find the optimal settings. Monaco should be fun.
