Toto Wolff: Russell is not the type to give up.

George Russell's crash in Canada and Kimi Antonelli's victory have led to a 43-point gap between the teammates in the individual standings. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is confident that Russell will cope with the disappointment of the recent race thanks to his mental resilience.

Toto Wolff: "In the last races, circumstances have been against George, and on Sunday he could have earned very important points. He was leading, but when it comes to resilience and character, I would bet on George out of everyone in the paddock.

He has faced difficulties many times since his karting days and in the junior series. And he is definitely not one to give up.

There are still 17 races ahead, if I counted correctly, which means many more points will be up for grabs. So right now, the main thing is to wake up tomorrow, process everything, leave it behind, and move forward, continuing to give his all. And that’s exactly what he will do.

George and I communicate every day, and we are returning from Montreal together, so there will be plenty of time to talk.

The best end up in Formula 1 not just because they got lucky winning a few races. They reach this level thanks to inner resilience. You can't win championships in junior series or in karting if you don't have character. And each of them has faced serious setbacks.

I think it's important for George to calmly reflect on everything now and just leave this situation in the past. He did everything he could, and perhaps that is the main positive aspect."
