Mika Salo thanked the Thai police for their clear work.
Recently, we reported on an unpleasant incident involving Mika Salo, a former Formula 1 driver, in Thailand. In this country in Southeast Asia, Mika was spending his vacation, but one recent evening, while standing on the edge of the sidewalk at a busy intersection in Bangkok, he sustained an injury, the causes of which are disputed.
According to one version, the wound on his leg could have been inflicted by a knife, while another version, held by the local police, suggests it may be the result of an accidental impact from some other object, such as the edge of a vehicle's license plate.
The Royal Thai Police has a department that deals with problematic situations faced by numerous tourists, and specialists from this unit urgently joined the investigation of the incident. Their conclusion is that the wound was indeed the result of some incident involving a motorcycle. This was reported by the local newspaper Thai Examiner.
Since the wound was quite serious, and to stitch it up, surgeons required 28 stitches, and 59-year-old Salo is a well-known figure, the story generated significant public attention. After all, it concerns the safety of tourists, which is one of the most important sources of income for the Kingdom of Thailand.
In an official statement made by the Thailand Police Hospital, it was noted that the wound was not inflicted by a knife, but by "some blunt object." On Wednesday afternoon, a detailed report on the preliminary results of the investigation was presented to the press at the Royal Police headquarters. This included statements from the Finn himself, who denies the version that he was the victim of an intentional attack.
Meanwhile, the police continue to review footage from surveillance cameras installed at the intersection where the incident occurred.
Mika has already sincerely thanked the Bangkok police and even shared a photo on his social media pages, which we used to illustrate this text.
"I want to thank the police of Thailand and the tourist police for their effective work and for taking good care of me," commented the former driver, who once raced for Team Lotus, Tyrrell, Arrows, Ferrari, Sauber, and Toyota.
