Cadillac chief dismisses 'totally untrue' rumors about Bottas leaving.
Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon has firmly rejected rumors that Valtteri Bottas may lose his position before the season concludes. Speculation grew after reports indicated the Finn’s future was uncertain, following a challenging start to the year and hints that reserve driver Colton Herta could step in—potentially very soon. However, Lowdon asserts that these rumors are completely unfounded.
"There is absolutely no foundation, no truth at all in these rumors," he stated. "I can say that categorically." He emphasized, "I want to be very clear—they are entirely false. None contain even a hint of truth."
These remarks follow reports that also connected teammate Sergio Perez with a possible move elsewhere, even though Cadillac has only participated in a few races of its inaugural Formula 1 season. Lowdon noted that outside observers do not fully understand the unique challenges facing Cadillac.
"When we consider the efforts of both drivers, they are doing much more than what is expected from drivers on some other teams," he clarified. "We are building the team while also competing, which is a very atypical undertaking."
"With all due respect, the outside world does not grasp what we are demanding of these drivers from session to session, race weekend to race weekend, as well as their contributions to car development."
Lowdon also dismissed claims that Herta could be called up right away, stating, "Some rumors I’ve encountered ignore some of the most basic regulations of Formula 1."
"Some suggest that we could replace Valtteri with Colton in the upcoming races, even though Colton lacks sufficient super licence points."
"This likely speaks volumes about the reliability of some of those rumors."
The Briton underlined that Bottas, Perez, and Herta all play vital roles within Cadillac’s broader program.
"Colton has a project he’s focused on. Checo has a program with us that he’s working on, and Valtteri does too," Lowdon noted. "They all contribute in their respective ways to our team-building efforts. It is crucial to clarify that there is not a single shred of truth or evidence supporting any rumors about Valtteri's position being at risk or that Checo might transfer to another team."
Meanwhile, Perez has been linked to potential opportunities elsewhere but asserts that he remains dedicated to Cadillac’s long-term vision.
"I’m very pleased with my performance and driving ability," the Mexican stated. "I’m glad to be back and to have demonstrated to myself that I’m among the top drivers."
However, Perez acknowledged that Cadillac still has substantial operational work to complete. "Right now, I’m quite impatient with the operational side," he admitted. "I believe we need to enhance this area, and we’re eager to do so because we aren’t maximizing our results. I think we are making headway in performance, which is promising, but operationally we are falling significantly short, and we truly need to find our path as we enter the European season."
