Verstappen's supporters responded to Steiner's criticism.
"I can see why you’re no longer an F1 team principal."
Max Verstappen’s supporters have criticized former Haas team principal Gunther Steiner after he implied that the Dutch driver's critiques of the 2026 regulations in Formula 1 stem from his lack of wins. "If Verstappen had won, he would be quite pleased, and these would be the best regulations ever," Steiner commented in a quote shared on an article on X. This statement led to a strong rebuttal from Verstappen’s father, Jos. "Hi Gunther," he responded on the social media platform. "I can see why you’re no longer an F1 team principal. The way you communicate." Verstappen's GT3 teammate Dani Juncadella also voiced his disapproval. "Verstappen has been warning everyone about the new regulations since 2023, but the head of the consortium that bought the Tech 3 MotoGP team knows better?" he wrote. This back-and-forth occurs amid a growing controversy over the heavily electric regulations in Formula 1, with Verstappen repeatedly indicating that he could exit the sport if the proposed changes for 2027 are not approved. Nonetheless, not everyone aligns with the four-time world champion’s views. Former driver Ralf Schumacher believes Verstappen should stop sending conflicting signals about his future. "Today he says, 'No, I’ll be driving for Red Bull in 2027, that’s fine,' and tomorrow he states, 'If this persists, I don’t want to continue,'” Schumacher told Sky Deutschland. "Eventually, he needs to make a definitive decision so that the entire team can concentrate on moving forward again." Schumacher also pointed out that Red Bull’s overall performance in Montreal may undermine some of Verstappen’s criticisms regarding the RB22. "Red Bull really made a leap forward in Montreal," he said. "Hadjar was very impressive this weekend, which is also worth noting." "Verstappen was expressing dissatisfaction with the car, while Hadjar was almost faster than him. This may not imply anything significant, but it's still notable."
