Here is the complete list of 97 car dealerships that the FTC warned about ‘deceptive’ pricing practices.
In March, the federal authorities notified nearly 100 car dealerships, urging them to cease deceptive pricing practices or face consequences. Although they made a significant announcement at that time, the FTC chose not to disclose the names of the dealerships involved. However, late last week, the FTC published the complete list of those who received warnings online.
Automotive News highlighted sections of this list, which is accessible on the agency’s website in a somewhat fragmented manner and not in a clear order. Among the recognized names on the list are AutoNation and Hendrick Automotive Group, as well as Lithia Group, which has more dealerships in the U.S. than any other entity.
Here is the complete list of dealership groups that were issued warnings; it comprises about 85 distinct entries, with some groups receiving multiple warnings for different corporate entities in various regions.

If a dealership is listed, the FTC believes they are or were involved in one or more of these questionable practices:
- Promoting a price that does not include all mandatory fees,
- Showcasing a price that includes rebates or discounts not available to every consumer,
- Displaying a price that does not consider the necessity for an additional down payment,
- Making the advertised price contingent upon consumers using dealer financing,
- Pressuring consumers to purchase extra items not mentioned in the advertised price,
- Advertising vehicles that are unavailable or nonexistent.
