Ferrari secures Leclerc for only an additional two years.

"The specifics of this new contract remain undisclosed."

Charles Leclerc has put an end to the rumors about his future by signing a new contract with Ferrari, ensuring he will race for the team for at least the next few seasons. Ferrari announced the deal on Wednesday, revealing that Leclerc has agreed to extend his stay for "the coming seasons," but did not specify the exact length of the contract.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Giulia Toninelli, the agreement is thought to extend through 2027 and 2028, with potential options for additional years. "The details of this new contract are not public, which has become standard in Formula 1, but it is anticipated to last two years with an option for extension, similar to the agreement Leclerc signed two years prior," she noted.

French outlet Sportune suggests that the contract grants Leclerc substantial control regarding his future, with options stretching to 2029 and 2030 that could total a package worth 184 million euros. If true, this would reportedly elevate Ferrari’s combined driver expenses with Lewis Hamilton to over 100 million euros per season, making it the highest-paid driver duo in Formula 1.

This announcement follows ongoing speculation about whether Leclerc’s patience with Ferrari was waning. Auto Motor und Sport contends that the Monegasque driver had limited alternatives. "The absence of opportunities was frustrating for the talented driver," the German publication stated.

"Last year, frequent rumors emerged about a potential move. Aston Martin, with its new engine partnership with Honda and design talent Adrian Newey, appeared to attract his interest. However, following the poor start to the 2026 season, the project is no longer an option for Leclerc."

Mercedes was similarly inaccessible, as championship leader Kimi Antonelli and George Russell are already part of the team, while Toto Wolff reportedly views Max Verstappen as his preferred long-term target.

The contract announcement, however, aligns with recent comments made by Leclerc, who expressed his positive feelings about his relationship with Ferrari. "The joy, the desire to win, the passion... they remain as strong as they were during my first year," he shared with La Gazzetta dello Sport. "What makes me feel at home is the relationships I’ve developed with the team. At Ferrari, they’ve seen my growth, and we’ve shared both good and bad times together."

Leclerc also commended teammate Hamilton, whose presence has positively influenced Ferrari’s internal culture. "A driver with as much success as Lewis has a very distinct work ethic, which has broadened my perspective," he remarked. "I’ve been very fortunate in my career, having had incredibly skilled teammates, each of whom has contributed to my development."

Reflecting on his time at Ferrari since joining the team in 2019, Leclerc acknowledged that experience has shifted his perspective. "Today I’m much more patient; when you’re young, you react emotionally to every situation, but I’ve learned to look beyond the moment," he stated. "This attitude has helped me cope with significant disappointments."

The renewal comes as Ferrari aggressively seeks to narrow the gap with Mercedes. Ferrari ambassador Marc Gene believes Monaco presents a significant opportunity. "We’re going to be very competitive in Monaco," he told Mundo Deportivo. "In the first sector in Canada, which featured the slowest corners, we were quite fast, comparable to Mercedes, and historically, Ferrari has performed well in Monaco."

Gene also confirmed that further upgrades are forthcoming. "For Barcelona next week, I've heard we will be introducing aerodynamic enhancements. There won’t be any engine upgrades just yet, assuming they are provided to us, which I hope they will be, from ADUO. But in Monaco, I believe we have a stronger chance."
